Welcome to The Comical Colon! My name is Jenna Ziegler, a nature-loving and coffee-addicted blogger, writer, and aspiring novelist. When I’m not working my two communications jobs, you can find me listening to instrumental music while writing next to a candle from my arguably excessive collection, probably with my cat Newbert on my lap.
But life was not always peachy for me; my world was turned upside down in November 2014 when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, an Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I went from a social girl to a hermit who retreated to dark, lonely corners where I tried to accept my diagnosis and deal with the pain that colitis brought with it.
Since then, I’ve learned that dark corners won’t lead you to acceptance and becoming a hermit won’t help the pain.
IBD can be isolating, embarrassing, and messy (and not just figuratively); but I believe the way to bridge Inflammatory Bowel Disease’s chasm of alienation, fear, and feeling misunderstood is to connect with others and talk about it.
Therefore, my mission through The Comical Colon is to share my experiences to connect with others on their IBD journeys; to provide resources, tips, and links to patients and families who don’t know where to turn; and to offer encouragement, community, and sensible chuckles.
I’d love to have you join me on this journey!
I post installments of my ulcerative colitis journey along with that chapter’s related resources and links. To view helpful infographics, links, resources and more, you can follow The Comical Colon on or my Instagram channel, Twitter, Facebook page, or the interactive Facebook group!
With the dream to bridge the isolation that IBD can bring, The Comical Colon dives into the both the raw and the optimistic that my colon has shown me along my comically imperfect journey. I’d love for you to be a part of it.
