“Vancomycin Gave Me My Life Back!” Says PSC Patient: A Story from Cholangiocarcinoma to Cancer-Free

PSC patient looking happy by the ocean

Mandy Ulseth submitted her incredible, heart-warming, hope-giving story about her experience with vancomycin. Mandy—a PSC and Crohn’s patient—started taking the ANI Pharmaceuticals brand of vancomycin in her early thirties. When she started vancomycin, she was in stage two liver fibrosis and was also living with gallbladder cancer and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.

Before vancomycin, Mandy was dealing with extreme itching, elevated liver enzymes, fatigue, and regular Crohn’s symptoms. Read her amazing story below to see how vancomycin gave Mandy her life back.

Patient Story: Submitted by Mandy Ulseth

Vancomycin gave me my life back! I was so sick and spiraling downward before I started vancomycin. The itching and stomach pains were preventing me from being the mother I wanted to be.

I was so sick and had so much inflammation that it ultimately lead to developing cancer. I fully believe vancomycin is helping to keep me cancer-free.

Once I started vancomycin, my itching disappeared in 12 hours. Within two to three months, there was normalization in my liver enzymes and my energy had increased. My Crohn’s symptoms improved within one week and I was in remission in one month.

Before vancomycin, I was on 15 different medications without ever achieving remission for my Crohn’s or PSC. I now only take ONE medication—vancomycin. I am in complete remission for my PSC and Crohn’s!

Since starting vancomycin, I’ve had no side effects or progression of my PSC, and I’ve had my first normal colonoscopy since 2009. My life is SO much better because of vancomycin. I owe my doctor everything for finally agreeing to prescribe it!
