Liquid Vancomycin is “Like a Miracle” for Teenage PSC Patient

At age 15 and in the second stage of liver fibrosis, Leonardo started taking the Firvanq brand of liquid vancomycin. He takes 500 mg twice a day and has experienced no vancomycin-related side effects. Not only did vancomycin lower all his liver enzymes to normal, but also helped him get into remission from his ulcerative colitis.

Everything started once my son got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. He was having UC symptoms for over a month and his liver enzymes were incredibly elevated. He lost a lot of weight and was hospitalized, very sick. It took a while for the doctors to conclude he had PSC.

I did some research and found out about vancomycin. I read about the success stories and went to see my son’s gastroenterologist with my research. His doctor was very receptive and immediately accepted to put my son on vancomycin

After about a month on vancomycin, Leonardo’s liver enzymes went back to normal! It was almost like a miracle! My son’s doctor and I were so excited and happy. Leonardo has been living a normal life, is very happy and has shown no symptoms of PSC since he started taking vancomycin. This antibiotic has been a blessing!
