Who Am I?
Hey there, I’m Jenna—writer and chronic illness advocate living with ulcerative colitis (2014), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) (2017), and enteropathic arthritis (2019).
I write about my chronic illness journey and things I’ve learned along the way to help equip and support you along yours.
On my blog and social media, you’ll find tips, hacks, and stories that you can use as tools to hone your self-advocacy skills, find community, and walk along your own journey with hope and confidence.
Why Did I Create The Comical Colon?
My world was turned upside down in September 2014 when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease. (You can read about my diagnosis story in detail in this blog post.) I went from a social girl to a hermit who retreated to dark, lonely corners where I tried to accept my diagnosis and deal with the pain that came with it.
Since then, I’ve learned that dark corners won’t lead you to acceptance and becoming a hermit won’t help the pain.
Community does.
IBD can be isolating, embarrassing, and messy, but I believe the way to bridge IBD’s chasm of alienation, fear, and feeling misunderstood is to connect with others and talk about it.
My mission through The Comical Colon is to share my experiences to connect with others on their IBD journeys; to provide resources, tips, and links to patients and families who don’t know where to turn; and to offer encouragement, community, and sensible chuckles.
