Hello there, and welcome! Thank you for taking some time out of your busy day to check out what The Comical Colon is all about.
Chances are, you or your loved one has been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease.
After maybe thinking wtf is that!? you’re now on your journey to getting symptoms under control and finding—and staying in—remission.
But where do I turn? How do I maintain my symptoms and find remission? How do I get used to my new normal? Where can I find others in a similar situation as me?
Do any of these questions sound familiar?
All these same questions flew through my mind when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in September of 2014. My brain was bubbling with questions and I was frantically googling every question and every fear I had. It was incredibly tiring and overwhelming.
I understand the uncertainty and anxiety you’re feeling. I hope this blog can help ease the overwhelm through the practical tips and resources I share.
What Topics I Write About
Over these past six years trying to keep my symptoms under control, I’ve gone through countless medical procedures, numerous medication changes, many trials, and even more triumphs.
I’ve done it all—from scooping my own poop out of the toilet for stool testing to swallowing a capsule with a camera in it to capture the characteristics of my digestive tract!
With stories like these as my inspiration, I write blog posts that share the details of my IBD journey, covering topics including living with an invisible illness, self-care and mental health, extraintestinal manifestations like joint pain and primary sclerosing cholangitis, and much more!
The Mission of The Comical Colon
These blog posts are not just interesting stories—they’re also a resource. Each chapter is infused with humor, honesty, and practical and actionable tips, links, and other resources to help you along your own unique IBD journey.
My mission through The Comical Colon is to share my experiences to connect with others on their IBD journeys; to provide resources, tips, and links to patients and families who don’t know where to turn; and to offer encouragement, community, and sensible chuckles.
I’m Thankful For You!
Though it took me a while to accept my chronic illness, I have decided that my diagnosis will not be in vain. I’ve chosen to find the humor in it all, and I want to share these experiences with you to support you along your journey.
What I’m trying to say is you—the readers and community of The Comical Colon—make my diagnosis worth it.
You have given it purpose.
